Biome Blends

by MeVerdo

Biome Blends lets players change the biome of a chosen area by applying a blend item to the ground with a right-click.

What it does

Blends are items that replace the biome of the ground they are applied to, and the effect reaches a set radius both vertically and horizontally. The default setup offers blends for existing vanilla biomes, and a blend can also be set to cover a biome namespace rather than one specific biome. Blends can be restricted to a given dimension, and their vertical and horizontal range can be defined.

Players craft the base blend from clay, white dye and paper; that base does nothing until it is combined with biome-related items to create an actual blend. Each blend can specify a remainder item left after use, and it can carry custom sounds and particles when it is applied.

Biome Blends is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Installation requires Architectury API on every loader, Fabric API on Fabric, and Forge Config API Port on Forge and NeoForge. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, with source code, an issue tracker and a wiki available. Files are published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 7 release versions, 1.20.1 – 26.3.

Key features

  1. Biome replacement by right-click

Applying a blend to the ground changes the biome of the surrounding area within its configured range.

  2. Crafted base blend

The base blend is crafted from clay, white dye and paper and becomes a working blend only when combined with biome items.

  3. Namespace and dimension rules

A blend can target a whole biome namespace instead of one biome, and its use can be limited to a chosen dimension.

  4. Custom effects and remainders

Each blend can define custom sounds, particles and a remainder item returned after use.

  5. Data pack configuration

Blends can be added, removed and edited through data packs, and the existing blends can be changed the same way.

Questions

Does Biome Blends need Fabric API on Forge?

No. Fabric API is required only on Fabric. Forge and NeoForge installs need Architectury API and Forge Config API Port instead.

Can a server change Biome Blends settings?

Yes. The configuration is changed with data packs, so server owners can add, remove or edit blends without a config file.
