Better Screens changes several screen and container behaviors in Fabric and Ornithe clients, from keeping the cursor in place to letting players close a container by clicking outside it.

What it does

The mod groups a set of small fixes for inventories, chests and other containers. Prevent Closing Screens stops the server from forcibly closing an open screen, such as a chat window that closes when a Hypixel SkyWars game begins. Don't Reset Cursor keeps the pointer where it was when a new screen opens right after the previous one, which helps with backpack slots in Hypixel SkyBlock. Both features were originally created by other authors for their own projects.

Container appearance has its own set of options: background opacity, texture opacity, the color of the container name and the color of the player inventory label. The label colors are useful when a resource pack gives poor contrast. A separate container GUI scale setting changes the scale for inventories and chests, but the author marks it as unfinished, with possible breakage and conflicts with other mods. Remove Recipe Book Shift stops the recipe book from moving the inventory when it opens or closes; it does not fit the book into the screen when the GUI scale is large.

The mod is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker. It runs on Fabric and Ornithe for game versions 1.8.9 – 26.3, with Fabric API and OneConfig as required dependencies. Only the client needs it, so servers and other players do not.
