Better Nature
by ThirtyFangs
With Better Nature installed, leaves render in 3D and trees gain mushrooms, branches and vines, adding new plants, pebbles and insects to the vanilla landscape.
What it does
Better Nature changes the look of the natural world. Leaves are drawn in 3D and actual leaves and vines appear on trees, while mushroom trees, branch trees and new plants and underwater plants fill in the biomes. Pebbles and stones add small ground detail, and the cactus is reworked to look better.
The mod also adds new animals, including a crab that behaves aggressively and drops nothing. Most of the content is client side, and the mod works with vanilla clients, so a server can run it while players connect without changes. Server owners can use the cosmetic features the same way, and an available resource pack format covers the textures.
Builds are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 11 release versions, 1.21.6 – 26.3, including snapshot builds. It works on either side, and neither side has to have it. The code is not open source, and the mod is released under All rights reserved.
Key features
3D leaves
Leaves are rendered as three-dimensional geometry rather than flat textures, changing how tree canopies look.
Mushroom and branch trees
New tree variants with mushroom caps and branches appear in the world alongside vanilla trees.
New plants and underwater plants
Additional plant life is placed on land and in water, adding ground cover and aquatic detail.
Pebbles, stones and vines
Small stones and pebbles are scattered on the ground, and trees carry vines and leaves that hang from their branches.

How it compares
Wither Skeleton Withers Nature is server-side and under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with files for 26.2 – 26.3, and it adds wither-themed nature changes. Surface Mushrooms works only on the server, is released under All rights reserved and covers 1.16.5 – 26.3, focusing on mushroom content. Fungalworks is also server-side, released under the MIT License and published for 1.21 – 1.21.1, so it targets much older versions.
