AutoTag
by Apace
With AutoTag, a world fills in several item, block and other tags on load, so pack makers can reach groups such as c:armor without listing each item by hand.
What it does
On world load, AutoTag populates some item, block and other tags from code conditions, and the tags cover modded content as well as vanilla items. The mod adds no items, blocks or recipes of its own, so it is a purely technical library for mod compatibility. Installing it on a server or a client, or both, has the same effect on tag contents.
The mod targets mod pack creators and anyone who configures recipes or behavior by tag. Many mods do not add their items to the shared conventional tags, which otherwise forces a player to build long lists by hand. A tag such as c:head equippables collects every item that fits the head slot, so a single entry covers the whole group.
Fabric is the only loader with files, and the latest build is 2.0.2+1.20 for 1.20.1, dated 2023-07-07. AutoTag runs on client and server, so both sides need it. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, and source, an issue tracker and a wiki are linked from its listing.
Key features
Automatic tag population
Tags are filled when a world loads, based on code conditions, so no manual list is needed for covered items.
Conventional group tags
Items are grouped into common tags such as c:armor, so one tag reference matches every armor piece from every mod.
Modded content included
The tag population covers items added by other mods, not only vanilla content.
Equipment slot tags
Items equippable in a given slot, such as the head slot, are collected into a tag like c:head equippables.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Pack configuration
A mod pack creator can add all armor items to a recipe or loot rule through one conventional tag instead of editing each entry.
Cross-mod recipes
Recipes written against common tags keep working when a mod that lacks those tags is added later.
Who it’s for: The mod is aimed at mod pack creators and players who configure other mods by tag. Players who only play without editing data have little use for it.
How it compares

Tag Exclusion is server-side only too, but targets 1.21 – 26.1.2 under the MIT License. HT Materials is on Fabric, with both client and server needed and the Mozilla Public License 2.0 as its license.

What the author says
This is a purely technical mod with the aim to increase inter-mod compatibility. By "purely technical" I mean that it won't add any content to your game. Mod creators are encouraged to use tags where possible, e.g. when creating a recipe. If mods are supposed to work together though, they should all share a same base…
