Armor Shift
by SatDPhoe
Armor Shift lets a player swap worn armor for a matching set from the inventory with one key press, without opening any screen.
What it does
When the swap key is pressed, the mod scans the inventory from top to bottom and equips the first matching armor pieces it finds. Priority follows that standard scanning order, so the set found first in the inventory is the one that gets worn. The swap happens in the middle of play, which lets a player change gear during a fight or while moving without closing the game screen.
The mod is a purely client-side utility, so it works on multiplayer and SMP servers without any plugin or server-side installation. Its requests stay on the client, and the server sends nothing back for the swap. Armor Shift is built for Minecraft Forge and is published for 1.20.1 – 1.20.4, with a Forge build 47.4.10 or newer needed to load it. The code is not open source, and all rights are reserved by the author.
Key features
Single-key armor swap
One key press exchanges the equipped armor pieces with a complete alternative set found in the inventory.
Priority-based selection
Matching pieces are picked in the standard top-to-bottom inventory scanning order, so the choice is predictable.
No server requests
The swap runs entirely on the client and sends no requests to the server, so it adds no network traffic.
Configurable key binding
The swap action is unassigned by default and can be bound in the Controls menu under the Armor Shift category to avoid conflicts.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Mid-fight gear changes
A player can switch from a heavy set to a lighter one without pausing or opening the inventory during combat.
Multiplayer play
Because nothing is installed on the server, a player can use the swap on a multiplayer server that does not run the mod.
Who it’s for: Players on Forge who regularly change between armor sets and want a quick key-based swap, including players on servers where they cannot install server-side plugins.
How it compares
ArmorSwap is also a client-side Forge mod for 1.20.1, but it is not open source and is under the MIT License. Armor Equip Delay is server-side only, runs on 1.20.1 and is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, so it changes behavior on the server instead of the player's client. Armor Shift targets 1.20.1 – 1.20.4 and needs no server-side part, like ArmorSwap.
