Animorph
by feeldev
Animorph lets a client draw custom 3D player models, play layered animations and show emotes that other players see, and it needs a companion plugin on the server to receive them.
What it does
Animorph replaces the vanilla player renderer with one built on GeckoLib. Custom models are loaded from Blockbench .geo.json files, textures use a layer system, and model parts can be hidden according to each player's settings, such as a cape or hat. Wide and slim arm variants are supported, and the first person arm can use its own custom model, which is drawn separately so body animations do not interfere with it. Hand items are rendered from the model's bones.
The animation system works with Animation Controllers and is compatible with a Bedrock Edition style animation format. A player can start an emote, and the emote is synchronized across players, with latency compensation so it appears at the moment it was started. A bone in the model can drive the player's camera, and camera effects can be created during emotes and special animations. The model creator can also specify how armor adapts to the model, but helmet, chestplate, leggings, boots, cape and elytra each have to be created as separate parts.
Animorph is client-side only, so players install it and servers do not need it. Emote synchronization, however, depends on the companion Animorph plugin running on a server, which the mod connects to in order to receive models and animations. The mod depends on Fabric API. Its files target 1.20.1 – 1.21.11 across Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and the code is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.
Key features
Custom model rendering
Player characters are drawn from Blockbench .geo.json models with textured layers and optional hidden parts.
Animation controllers
A controller system plays animations on the model, with Bedrock style animation data as the input format.
Synchronized emotes
Emotes started by one player appear for others at the same moment, with latency compensation applied.
Independent first person arms
The first person arm uses its own custom model, separate from body animations, and held items follow the model's bones.

Emote Menu is a client and server mod under the MIT License for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1 on Fabric and Forge, and Animorph is published for three loaders over a longer range.

What the author says
This mod is the client-side companion for the Animorph plugin. It allows you to visualize custom 3D models, advanced animations, and synchronized emotes on players. It's possible to animate the player's camera using a specific bone in the model. This allows creating camera effects during emotes or special animations.
