Winter Particles

by qwider

Winter Particles, a Fabric client mod, puts a falling snowfall around the player that follows them while they walk, ride or fly.

FabricClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.20 – 26.2

What it does

The snowfall is drawn on the client only, so the server does not need the mod and players join without installing it on the server side. Snow is grouped into four distance bands: close particles sit within a 3 to 20 block radius, mid-range particles fill the air up to 30 blocks, distant particles form a background horizon, and ground-level particles add snow near the feet.

Particle trails stretch in the direction of travel, matching speed for up to 15 blocks ahead, which suits elytra flight and riding horses, pigs, boats or minecarts. Motion-adaptive spawning changes the density as the player moves or stands still. Values such as amount, spread and ambient effects can be adjusted in-game through a config file, with more than ten settings in total. Snow text is available in English and Russian.

Builds exist for Fabric only, across 23 release versions 1.20 – 26.2, with the latest file, 1.10, published for 26.2. The mod is released under All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Four particle distance bands

Close, mid-range, distant and ground-level snow each cover a separate radius around the player.

  2. Motion-adaptive trails

Particle trails follow speed and direction up to 15 blocks ahead, so flight and riding look different from walking.

  3. Mounts and elytra support

Snow trails are drawn while riding horses, pigs, boats or minecarts and while gliding with an elytra.

  4. Configurable settings

More than ten options, including density and spread, can be changed in-game through a config file.

  5. Optimized spawning

A smart spawning system limits how many particles are created to keep the frame rate stable.
