Whole Cloth

by davigj

Whole Cloth adds cloth scraps as a new resource, which players collect from mobs and loot and then use to craft beds and colorful building blocks.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Cloth scraps drop from zombies, strays and piglins, and they also appear in some chest loot in places like wrecked ships and small dungeons. Crafting a bed takes cloth scraps, so the mod changes early progression by adding a step that vanilla does not have. Scraps are used to craft decorative blocks, including cloth carpet blocks.

Cloth blocks behave like wool in one respect: they dampen and occlude sculk vibrations. With Farmer's Delight installed, its knives can gather a few more scraps from certain creatures. Cloth blocks can also serve as windmill sails in Create. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. Builds exist for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with 1.0.1 for 1.20.1 as the latest file, on Forge and NeoForge, under the MIT License, and the source code is public.

Key features

  1. Cloth scraps as a resource

Zombies, strays and piglins drop cloth scraps, which adds a material that did not exist before in the base game.

  2. Beds need cloth

Crafting a bed requires cloth scraps, so players gather them early in the game.

  3. Colorful cloth blocks

Scraps craft decorative blocks such as cloth carpet blocks in a range of colors.

  4. Sculk-dampening blocks

Cloth blocks dampen and occlude sculk vibrations, as wool does, which matters for sculk-heavy areas.

Cloth blocks serve as sails for Create windmills, giving those builds a fabric look.

Who it’s for: Players who want more decorative blocks and an extra early resource, and server owners who want cloth scraps to matter in progression.
