What it does

Players drink from water sources to restore hydration, and a water level tracks how much they have left. Water is carried in leather water bags and pottery water cups, and a dispenser filter can turn raw water into a cleaner supply. The filter shows its remaining capacity and has an effect on the water passing through it. Item hydration values and filter recipes are defined in data pack folders, so server owners can change them without editing code.

The mod is a rebuild of the earlier Water Source mod on Kotlin with Fabric Yarn mappings, with some mechanics redesigned, which is why it carries a new name. Basic mechanics such as water level, hydration, a GUI, thirst, water filters and enchantments are in the beta, and the author notes that they were tested over a long period. Changes to balance and new content were added over several updates. Files are listed for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 on Fabric and NeoForge, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need the mod.

Key features

  1. Hydration and thirst

Thirst drains over time, and drinking from water restores the hydration level shown in the GUI.

  2. Water containers

Leather water bags and pottery water cups hold water for carrying during travel.

  3. Dispenser filters

Filters placed on a dispenser clean water, and their capacity and effect are displayed on the filter.

  4. Data pack configuration

Item hydration values and filter recipes are set in data pack folders, so values can be adjusted per world.

Server balance

Server owners can adjust hydration values and filter recipes through the data pack instead of changing the mod.

Who it’s for: Survival players and server owners who want a thirst mechanic with configurable values. The mod is in beta, and the author lists issues with it.
