Hydration
by Jaidev
Hydration adds a thirst meter to Fabric survival play, so players must keep track of water and drink it before the bar runs out.
What it does
A new bar on the interface tracks hydration, and ignoring it brings weakness and slowness. Water sources can be drunk directly, but dirty water has to be purified first, either in a water boiler crafted from common materials or through a water filter straw that makes any source safe without a separate step. Players can carry water with them to stay hydrated while travelling or fighting heat.
Installation needs only Fabric. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. Files cover game version 1.21.4 alone, the latest being 1.0.5 from 2025-05-29, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license, which does not make the mod open source.
Key features
Thirst bar
A hydration gauge on the interface shows how much water the player has left and warns when it falls low.
Purified and dirty water
Water is split into purified and dirty sources, and only purified water is safe to drink without side effects.
Water boiler
A block that turns dirty water into drinkable water when the player uses it, crafted from ordinary materials.
Dehydration effects
Ignoring thirst applies weakness and slowness, so the penalty grows the longer a player goes without water.
Water filter straw
A portable item that lets the player drink straight from a water source without a purification step.

Use cases
Survival worlds
Thirst adds a resource to manage alongside food and health, which changes how far players range from water sources.
Hot biomes
Players crossing deserts or other hot areas keep water on hand to stay hydrated and avoid the penalties.
Who it’s for: Players who want a survival challenge built around water management and servers that want thirst on top of hunger.
