[LEGACY] Drip Sounds (Forge)

by PieKing1215

With Drip Sounds installed, water and lava drops falling from ceilings and dripstone now make audible landing sounds on the Forge and NeoForge loaders.

What it does

Drip Sounds adds audio to drip particles that land on a surface. A water drop plays a pop sound when it lands, and a lava drop plays a sizzle sound. From Minecraft 1.17 onward, the sounds follow the Dripstone set unless a setting switches back to the older drip audio used in 1.16 and earlier. The rate at which drip particles spawn can also be adjusted in the config.

The mod is a client mod: only the client needs it, and servers run without it. The custom lava sizzle is heard in multiplayer only when the server also has the mod, unless the Dripstone option is in use. The config screen depends on Cloth Config API, which must be installed alongside it, and Game Menu Mod Option is an optional extra. The code is released as open source with a copyleft license, and public source code and an issue tracker are available. Builds exist for Forge and NeoForge across 18 release versions, 1.15.2 – 1.20.1, and the latest file is 0.3.2 for 1.20.1, published on 2023-03-15 on the beta channel.

Key features

  1. Water landing sound

A water drop that lands plays a pop sound in place of silence.

  2. Lava landing sound

A lava drop that lands plays a sizzle sound, provided the Dripstone option is off or the server has the mod.

  3. Dripstone sound option

From 1.17 onward the Dripstone sounds are used by default, with a switch to the older drip sounds.

  4. Drip spawn rate

The frequency at which drip particles appear can be configured.

Questions

Does Drip Sounds need Cloth Config API?

Yes. Cloth Config API is a required dependency, and the mod's config screen does not work without it.

Does the server need Drip Sounds installed?

No. The mod is client required and server optional, so a server runs without it, though the lava sizzle only plays in multiplayer when the server has the mod too.

Which loaders and game versions does Drip Sounds cover?

Files are published for Forge and NeoForge, with builds for 1.15.2 – 1.20.1, and the latest release targets 1.20.1.

What the author says

This mod is client-side, so it does not need to be installed on the server for it to work. (NOTE: If you are not using the dripstone sounds, the custom lava drop sizzle sound only works in multiplayer if the server also has the mod. This will hopefully be fixed in a future version)
