Walkie-Talkie
by Flaton
Walkie-Talkie adds two-way radios with several upgrade options, letting players talk to each other by holding a handheld device in the hand.
What it does
Right-clicking opens the Walkie-Talkie menu, where a radio is switched on or off, a speaker is turned on, and a channel is picked. To speak, the device has to be held in the main hand; to hear others, it has to sit in the hotbar. Voice relies on Simple Voice Chat, Architectury API and Fabric API, which must be present alongside the mod.
The mod is published for Fabric and Forge across eight game versions, 1.16.5 – 1.20.4, and is released under the MIT License as open source. Its source code and issue tracker are public. Client and server both need the mod, so every player on a server that runs it must install it as well. The first release appeared on 2023-02-10, and the newest file, fabric-1.3.0 for 1.20.4, followed on 2024-02-24. The latest Forge file, forge-1.3.1 for 1.16.5, came out on 2024-03-27.
Key features
Radio menu on right-click
Right-clicking the device opens a configuration screen for the radio's settings.
Channel selection
A player picks which radio channel to use from the menu, so groups can keep separate conversations.
Hand and hotbar roles
Speaking requires the walkie-talkie in the hand, while listening works when it sits in the hotbar.
Speaker toggle
A separate switch turns the speaker on, so the radio can be heard without being held.
Adjustable upgrades
Different upgrades change how the radio behaves, and the configuration interface exposes them in one place.
