Verbose Subtitles

by vinceTheProgrammer

Verbose Subtitles, a Fabric utility, shows more descriptive in-game subtitles for sounds, and players can tune which sounds appear.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.19.4 – 1.21.6

What it does

The mod provides options for more verbose in-game subtitles, so sounds that vanilla labels only generically can show a fuller description on screen. Each sound can be checked and adjusted in the settings, and the subtitles can be turned off inside the game without removing the mod from the instance.

Customization covers a broad set of options. A blacklist keeps chosen sounds from appearing as subtitles, and a set of client-side commands manages that blacklist. Each entry is shown with its sound ID, its display name from the vanilla subtitle, its volume and its pitch, which helps when working out which sound is which.

Verbose Subtitles is open source under the MIT License and runs on the client alone, so only players install it and servers need nothing. Files exist for 1.19.4, 1.20, 1.20.1, 1.20.2, 1.20.4, 1.21.3 and 1.21.6, with 1.7.0-1.21.6 for 1.21.6 as the latest build. It requires Cloth Config API, Fabric API and Mod Menu.

Key features

  1. Verbose subtitle options

Sounds receive fuller subtitle text than the vanilla labels, with options for which sounds show up.

  2. Toggle without uninstalling

Subtitles can be disabled in game while the mod stays installed, so it can be switched on again later.

  3. Sound blacklist

Specific sounds can be excluded from appearing as subtitles, which trims out noise the player does not need.

  4. Client-side blacklist commands

Commands run on the client manage the blacklist, so entries can be added or removed without editing files.

  5. Per-sound details

Each sound is listed with its sound ID, display name, volume and pitch, making it easier to identify entries.
