Vein Pickaxe works through a datapack, so it needs no Java mod code to run and is installed by placing it in a world's datapacks folder. The pack relies on item drop coordinates to break blocks, which is why the author recommends using it in Creative mode when testing. Players can craft the Vein Pickaxe through the recipe the pack adds, and a quick message appears when the feature is triggered.

Because the pack relies on item drop coordinates, mods that pull drops toward the player, such as magnet mods, can interfere with its behavior, so the author advises caution when combining them. Vein Pickaxe is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a data pack for server platforms, across the range 1.21 – 26.3. Server owners install it, and players can join with or without it. The code is covered by the CC0 1.0 Universal license and is not open source.
