Vanadium

by The Omen Den

Vanadium is a Fabric client-side mod that changes how custom colors from resource packs are applied and blended on screen, with caching for the blending step.

FabricClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.20.1 – 1.20.2

What it does

The mod implements custom colors from resource packs in a simple, direct way, and stores results in a cache so the blending work is not repeated every frame. It plugs into the Sodium Blending Registry, which lets it define how biome colors are mixed at the edges where two biomes meet, and Better Biome Blend is listed as a related blending option within the same setup.

Only the client needs Vanadium, so servers and other players do not have to install it. It requires Cloth Config API, Fabric API, Indium and Sodium to run. The mod is published for Fabric only, with files for 1.20.1 and 1.20.2; the latest Fabric file is 0.1.675 for 1.20.2, released 2023-10-15. It is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Custom resource pack colors

Colors defined in resource packs are read and applied in a straightforward way, without a heavy processing layer.

  2. Result caching

Blended color results are cached, so the same calculation is not redone every time the screen is drawn.

  3. Sodium Blending Registry support

Blending behavior is registered through the Sodium Blending Registry, so it fits into an existing Sodium setup.

  4. Better Biome Blend option

Biome edge blending can be paired with Better Biome Blend for a related blending effect.

Use cases

Resource pack authors

Pack makers who define custom colors can rely on the mod to apply them with blending and caching.

Sodium users

Players who already run Sodium and Indium can add Vanadium to extend color blending in the same client setup.

Who it’s for: Players and resource pack authors on Fabric 1.20.1 or 1.20.2 who run Sodium and want custom color blending. Modpack authors who build lists with Indium should note that the mod works without Indium, as its own author states.
