Useful Carts
Useful Carts adds horse-drawn and hand-pulled carts that players hitch, pull and load with goods, plus storage carts that hold cargo.
What it does
The carts are a family of vehicles hauled on foot, by a horse, a donkey or a mule. Standing within a few blocks of a cart, a player taps the Attach/Detach Cart key, which is R unless rebound, to fasten it, and taps the same key again to release it. On foot the player pulls the cart directly, while a saddled horse, donkey or mule pulls it once mounted. A Toggle Slow key (Z) eases maneuvering around tight spots.
The mod is a Fabric port with the original MIT copyright retained, so the code is open source. It needs Fabric API and Forge Config API Port, and it runs on client and server, so both the server and every player need it. Files cover 26.1.2 and 26.2, and the latest Fabric file is 26.2.0+mc26.2 for 26.2, published 2026-07-20. It was first published on 2026-07-02 and the project has public links for source code, the issue tracker and a wiki.

A two-seat cart that ferries players and livestock, where small animals wander in and climb aboard.
Plow and Seed Drill
A plow that tills farmland and carves dirt paths or strips logs, and a seed drill that holds nine stacks of seeds and plants automatically over farmland.
Reaper
A cart pulled by a horse that mows a wide swath of crops and clears ground growth.

NiftyCarts is also a Fabric mod under the MIT License, open source and client and server, with files for 1.18.2 – 1.21.11, so it covers older game versions than Useful Carts does. Fast Player Minecarts is server-side only, open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and built for 26.2, so players join without installing anything. BearMetal Carts is server required with client optional, open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and targets 26.2 – 26.3.
