The Unhinged One

The Unhinged One adds a rare horror creature that roams the overworld at night and talks to the player through chat.
What it does
The creature is a funny horror mob that rarely appears, usually when the player least expects it. It does not sleep or stop, and it often sounds as if it is right behind the player. It can disguise itself as a prop, and it communicates with the player personally through chat messages, which makes each encounter feel directed.
The mod also brings in three new mobs, including the Shadow Leechoraptor and the Unhinged One itself. It adds a pocket dimension, the home of the Unhinged Ones, with six biomes: Bone Fields, Charred Forest, Crimson Depths, Shattered Peaks, Wastes and Despair. The mod requires Fabric API and Geckolib on Fabric and Quilt, and it runs on client and server. Files target 1.20.1 only, and the latest build, 2.5.0, was published on 2026-05-25, released under the MIT License.

Unhinged Paws is a Fabric-only mod for 1.20.1 under All rights reserved, not open source, that runs on client and server like The Unhinged One. Presence (An Ambient Horror Mod) covers Fabric and Forge across 1.19.2 – 1.21.11 under the MIT License and is not open source. Unhinged Carnival Supplies is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and targets Fabric for 1.21, which is a different game version from this mod.
