The Archivist
by CoreStudio
The Archivist is a Fabric psychological horror mod that breaks the fourth wall, reaching past the game into the player's real computer.
What it does
Instead of adding monsters that chase the player, the mod plays on paranoia. Experience windows open with their own backgrounds, files are dropped straight onto the actual desktop, and whispers appear in chat under the player's own username, sent without any typing. The events are spread out over the session and mixed with psychological manipulation, so the player is left unsure what is real.
The mod uses real PC information to frighten the player, including the IP address and Windows username shown on screen. Streamers and content creators can type the archivist safeip command right after joining a world to hide that data and prevent doxxing. The mod contains sudden loud noises, jumpscares and intense horror elements, and installing it means consenting to its psychological effects.
The Archivist is published for Fabric only, with files for 1.21 – 1.21.11 across 12 release versions. Installation covers the server and each player's game. The code is not open source and is released under All rights reserved.
Key features
Desktop intrusions
Experience windows open with their own backgrounds and files appear directly on the desktop, reaching outside Minecraft.
Chat manipulation
Strange whispers and desperate cries are posted to chat under the player's own username without the player typing them.
Sleepless nights
Sleeping is no longer a safe haven, since each attempt to rest carries a risk of being violently awakened and attacked.

How it compares
Echo Protocol is a Fabric mod for 1.21.1 – 1.21.11 under the MIT License and open source, with a client and server environment. Sanity System is also Fabric and client and server, but only for 1.21.4 and not open source. Sleepless is a datapack-style option that runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.20 – 1.21.5, under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, and it is server required with the client optional, unlike The Archivist, which needs both sides.
