Sanity System
by KG Studios
Sanity System, a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.21.4, adds a hidden mental stability value that darkness, isolation and fear slowly wear down, bringing on hallucinations and distortions in the world.
What it does
The mod tracks a sanity value from 0 to 100 that players cannot see on a bar. Darkness, deep caves, lack of sleep, thunderstorms, exposure to cold rain and time spent in the Deep Dark lower it. Bright light, sleeping in villages, playing music, standing near other players and keeping tamed wolves or cats near help it recover, and high mountain altitudes and holding a clock on the ground can steady it as well.
As sanity falls, the world starts to feel wrong. Fake footsteps and whispers come from out of sight, shadow figures stand at a distance, fake hostile mob sounds creep up behind the player, torches flicker at random, and the screen desaturates with panic-inducing distortions. A rare watching entity disappears the moment the player looks at it. Lower sanity brings more intense hallucinations, more frequent disturbances and a reality that becomes unreliable.
The mod is client and server, so the server and every player need it. Each player experiences their own independent hallucinations, and the mod is built for multiplayer use. It is published for Fabric only, for 1.21.4, and is not open source; it is released under All rights reserved.
Key features
Hidden sanity value
A 0 to 100 stability value that the player cannot see, changed by surroundings, sleep and company.
Psychological hallucinations
Fake footsteps, whispers, mob sounds and shadow figures that appear without a real source.
Environmental distortions
Flickering torches and desaturated screen visuals that grow stronger as sanity drops.
Independent hallucinations per player
Each player on a server sees their own disturbances, so one person's episodes do not carry over to others.
