SYLA (Staining Your Life Away)

by AJBruner77

SYLA adds stains made from pulped wood, so vanilla woods can be turned into a natural-looking variety of stains, slabs, and bottles.

FabricNeoForgeClient and serverCC0 1.0 UniversalOpen source1.21.1 – 26.1.2

What it does

Players harvest stripped logs, blast them in a Blast Furnace to produce pulp, and combine eight pulp with one empty bottle to make a stain. Each of the eight supported wood types yields its own pulp, and the stain is equipped by right-clicking a vanilla piece.

Placing a slab on the ground and right-clicking it with a stain changes it into a natural version of that wood. Recipes for new blocks use the slabs and stains, and barrels of each wood type can be converted with the matching stain while keeping their contents. Installation covers the server and each player's game. It is released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, which is open source, and has files for 1.21.1 and 26.1.2 on both Fabric and NeoForge.

Key features

  1. Wood pulp from logs

Stripped logs blasted in a furnace yield pulp for each of the eight supported wood types.

  2. Stains from pulp

Eight pulp and one empty bottle craft a stain for the matching wood.

  3. Natural slabs

A stain applied to a vanilla slab converts it into a natural version of that wood.

  4. Barrel conversion

Barrels of each wood type can be changed with the matching stain, and their contents stay in place.

Use cases

Building with a matching palette

Builders can use stained slabs, stairs and fences so new structures match the wood of their surroundings.

Who it’s for: Builders and survival players who want a wider range of wood-based blocks in their vanilla-style builds, and server owners who want the stains available to every player.

What the author says

Once harvested, put them into a Blast Furnace to create Pulp for whatever variety of wood was Blasted. Then players can use the Pulp…
