Survivality
by creoii
Survivality changes a set of survival rules, including snow, horses, minecarts, armor and spawning, on Fabric and Forge.
What it does
Shoveling snow layers, faster minecarts, zombie horses that can be tamed after a lightning strike, and armor swapping between the hotbar and the armor slots are the main changes. Feather Falling Boots break farmland, leaves can turn white and grayish, sheep sometimes spawn in colors, and slimes and magma cubes spawn one size larger than normal. Snacks such as glow berries are consumed more quickly, and freshly generated worlds can start at a fixed time of day, with a random biome, or during a weather event. Cactus items are destroyed on cactus blocks, and the eyes of players are never broken.
Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Survivality is published for Fabric and Forge across seven release versions, under All rights reserved, so the code is not open source. YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) is an optional dependency that adds a configuration screen. Latest files are 1.3.1 for 1.20.4 on Fabric and 1.2.5 for 1.20.1 on Forge.
Key features
Shovelable snow
Right-clicking snow layers with a shovel reduces their level, so snow can be cleared in fewer steps.
Faster minecarts
The maximum speed of minecarts is raised, which shortens long rail journeys.
Zombie horses
Striking a zombie horse with lightning makes it rideable and tamable.
Armor swapping
Armor and the elytra swap places with the hotbar, as in Bedrock Edition.
Experience and spawning
Players drop more experience on death, scaled to their level, and sheep can spawn in colors.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.

Use cases
Survival playthroughs
Players who want a harder or more varied survival world can change how snow, horses and spawns behave.
Fresh world starts
Newly generated worlds can begin at a set time of day, biome or weather, which varies each new map.
Who it’s for: Players who want changes to the vanilla survival rules, and server owners who want the same rules on a shared world. Both the server and each player need the mod.
How it compares
Horse Break Leaves is server-side only for Fabric, with a file for 1.20.1, and is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license. Rideable Zombie Horses is client and server for Forge across 1.19.2 – 1.19.4, under All rights reserved, and is not open source. Survivality covers a wider set of changes across its own version range.
