Sponge Crafting
by StaticLabs
Sponge Crafting gives the Sponge block a crafting recipe built from Yellow Dye, Slimeball and Dried Kelp Block, which the vanilla game does not provide.
What it does
The mod is a data pack that adds one recipe: four Yellow Dye, four Slimeball and one Dried Kelp Block arranged to craft a Sponge. Vanilla Minecraft has no crafting recipe for the block, which is normally found only in ocean monuments. The recipe uses ingredients tied to the ocean, so it matches the origin of the block.
Because the Sponge becomes craftable, large water-draining builds and underwater bases need fewer monument raids to gather enough blocks. The mod is listed for the Data pack platform and carries no loader-specific code. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, covering game versions 1.13 – 26.1.1, and the server is the side that must run it, while clients may join without it.
Key features
Sponge crafting recipe
A shaped recipe turns Yellow Dye, Slimeball and Dried Kelp Block into a Sponge block in the crafting grid.
Steadier Sponge supply
Builders no longer depend on random monument loot to collect Sponges for terraforming projects.
Lightweight data pack
The change is a single recipe file, so it adds almost nothing to world load time or memory use.
Vanilla-style recipe
The recipe uses base game items and fits the rest of the crafting tree, so it reads as part of vanilla.

Use cases
Terraforming and drainage
Players who drain ocean areas or reshape coastlines can craft the Sponges they need without repeated monument raids.
Underwater bases
Builders constructing underwater bases can gather the blocks needed to keep water out of their structures.
Who it’s for: Survival players and server owners who want a craftable Sponge without adding a new mod loader dependency. The data pack suits servers that already run other data-driven changes.
How it compares
Craft Sponge is the closest alternative in function. It is server-side and client optional, under the MIT License, and covers 1.16 – 26.3 on the four loaders. Sponge Plus is server-side only, licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21.1 – 26.2. Sponge Crafting is released under All rights reserved and does not share the open-source licensing of either.
