Sound mod
by galaxynull
Sound mod plays a custom sound each time the player kills another player, adding audio feedback to PvP fights on the client.
What it does
The sound plays immediately when a player kills another player, and it can also play when the player is defeated. Players can choose their own sounds: audio files placed in the designated sounds folder of the Minecraft instance are picked up by the mod, and a sound is selected from the in-game menu opened with the K key. Only .ogg files are supported, so other audio formats will not load.
The mod runs on the client alone, so players can use it on servers without any server-side install. Cloth Config API is optional, but when it is installed the settings can be changed directly in the in-game configuration menu. Without it, the configuration file in the instance's config folder is edited by hand. Sound mod is open source under the MIT License and is published for Fabric, with files for 1.21.4 – 1.21.11.
Key features
Kill sound
A sound plays right after the player kills another player, giving quick feedback during combat.
Defeat sound
A separate sound can play when the player is defeated, so both outcomes of a fight have their own audio.
Custom sound files
Players can add their own .ogg files to the sounds folder and assign them to kill or defeat events.
In-game settings
A menu opened with the K key sets the volume, toggles the mod and selects a sound profile.

Use cases
Player versus player servers
On PvP servers, a kill sound marks each elimination so the player hears the result without watching the chat.
Personal sound packs
Players who dislike the default sounds can replace them with their own .ogg recordings.
Who it’s for: Players who want audio feedback for kills and defeats in PvP fights, and who are comfortable adding their own .ogg files to the instance folder.
How it compares
KillCounter is a Fabric client-side mod released under the MIT License, but it is not open source and covers 1.21 – 1.21.1 only. Kill sound is also client-side and is released under the Apache License 2.0, with files for 1.21 – 1.21.11. Custom Crossbow Sounds is client-side, open source under the MIT License, and built for 1.21.11 alone.
