Sodium Relief
by Erotoro
When hovering quickly over many items in large inventories or chests, Sodium Relief reduces the small tooltip stutter that modded tooltips can cause, as a Fabric client mod.
What it does
Sodium Relief caches tooltip layouts and text-width measurements, so tooltip data already computed for an unchanged hover is reused instead of being rebuilt every frame. Results are kept with an LRU and TTL policy. The author reports a tooltip build measured at 0.1–0.3 ms, and reuse saves about half a second of CPU time across a 20-second test. The mod is intended for players who use heavy modded tooltips, large storage systems or long inventory sessions.
Sodium Relief is a Fabric client-side mod for Minecraft 1.21 – 26.2, with 16 release versions and files for each. Fabric API is required, and Mod Menu and Sodium are optional. It is released under the MIT License and is open source. The source code and issue tracker are public. Installing it through the Modrinth App handles dependencies automatically.
Key features
Tooltip layout caching
Tooltip layouts are stored and reused when the hovered item has not changed, which skips repeated layout work.
Text-width measurement cache
Repeated text-width measurements are cached instead of being recomputed each frame.
Fast cursor movement
Unnecessary recomputation is avoided while the cursor moves quickly across many items.
Benchmark button in settings
A benchmark button in the settings exports a raw capture of a run, so results can be measured on the same version.

Use cases
Large inventories and storage
Opening big chests and modded storage systems, where many items are hovered in a row.
Heavy modded tooltips
Setups with mods that add complex tooltip content, where each hover costs more work.
Who it’s for: Players who want a focused GUI-smoothness mod rather than a full optimization suite, and who already run Sodium or want a companion to it.
How it compares
ParaMax is a Fabric client-side mod under the Apache License 2.0 and is open source, with files for 1.21.1 – 26.3. Iridium is a Fabric mod for 1.21.1 only, with a custom license that is not open source, and it can run on a client or server. Sodium Relief covers tooltip stutter specifically, while those alternatives are broader in scope.
