Simple Close Button
Simple Close Button adds a close button to most inventory screens, so players can leave a container or menu without reaching for the Escape key.
What it does
The button is added to most inventory screens, including screens from vanilla and many modded ones. A player who wants to change how the button is placed or whether it appears can do so through the mod's Mod Menu configuration screen, which is built with YetAnotherConfigLib.
Only the client needs the mod, so players install it while servers run without it. Fabric API and YetAnotherConfigLib are required, and Mod Menu is optional for the config screen. Builds cover 1.20 – 1.21.4 and are released under the MIT License as open source code.
Version 3.0 added a way for other mods to register the screens they want the button on, using the class path of each screen. Modpack authors and mod developers can use this to extend support, while a casual player does not need to handle it.

Modpacks
Modpack builders can add the button to inventory screens from other mods used in a pack.
Who it’s for: Players who use many container and inventory screens, and modpack authors who want a consistent close button across them.
How it compares
World Install Button is also a client-side Fabric mod under the MIT License, but it adds a button to the world selection screen and targets 1.20 – 26.2. Mod Settings is a client-side Fabric mod under the MIT License covering 1.17 – 26.3, and it manages configuration rather than the close button. Inventory Trash Cleaner is client-side on Fabric for 1.21.11 only and is not open source under All rights reserved.
