Shrapnel Explosions

by CyberButcher

Shrapnel Explosions makes blasts throw high-velocity fragments that tear through thin walls, doors and glass, and ricochet off metal blocks.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Each explosion produces two layers of destruction. The first is a burst of fast shards released at the blast center, representing casing and core energy flying outward. The second is debris made from the blocks the explosion destroys, so a house that is blown apart becomes shrapnel itself, and a stone wall sends heavy, lethal chunks while glass windows scatter jagged shards across a wide area.

Fragments lose speed as they pass through obstacles and change direction when they hit them. Different block types slow fragments by different amounts. A mod configuration menu lets server owners adjust these behaviors.

The mod is Forge and NeoForge only, for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and it runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is released under All rights reserved, which means it is not open source. The project publishes an issue tracker for reports.

Key features

  1. Primary shrapnel burst

Fast shards are spawned at the explosion center and fly out almost instantly, peppering the surrounding area.

  2. Secondary environmental debris

Projectiles are created from the actual blocks destroyed by an explosion, so the terrain itself becomes a hazard.

  3. Penetration and ricochet

Fragments pass through thin wooden doors, fences, leaves and glass, and bounce off metal blocks such as iron and copper.

  4. Material-based slowing

Each block type slows passing fragments by a different amount, which changes how far debris travels through a wall.

  5. Configurable behavior

A configuration menu in the mod lets server owners change how shrapnel behaves.
