Shelves

by boyonk

Shelves is a Fabric storage block that holds up to three stacks of items and lets players swap items between a shelf and their inventory.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.6 – 1.21.8

What it does

Each shelf functions as a block that stores and displays up to three stacks of items. Interacting with the front of a single shelf swaps its contents with the three rightmost items in the player's hotbar, and an item frame-like display shows what is stored. When shelves are placed next to each other, up to three connect, and interacting with two or three connected shelves swaps contents with six rightmost items or with the whole hotbar. The mod also includes a powered shelf whose front texture changes to reflect its redstone state.

Shelves targets Fabric and requires Fabric API. The server and every player need the mod installed. Files are published for 1.21.6 – 1.21.8, with 1.0+1.21.6 for 1.21.8 as the latest file. The source is released under the MIT License, so the mod is open source.

Use cases

Quick item access

Players keep frequently used items on shelves and move them to the hotbar with one click.

Decorative builds

Twelve wood variants let builders match shelves to houses, libraries and other structures.

Who it’s for: Players and builders who want extra storage that also works as a decoration, on Fabric. Server owners can add it without changing the rules of their world beyond the shelves themselves.
