Shader Patcher

by excederus

Shader Patcher, a Client-side only utility for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, adds mod support to shaderpacks in the Iris and Optifine formats.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.19 – 26.3

What it does

The mod attempts to patch a shaderpack so that blocks, items and entities from other mods are recognized by it. Patching works through mapping and transform files that identify modded blocks, items and entities and point them to the matching properties file, using each entry's ID field. Modpack developers can add further patches by bundling files into their config directories, and existing shaderpack properties files are reused when they already cover a mod.

Coverage is limited. Patching searches for vanilla blocks, items and entities, so new categories cannot be invented, and the bundled support covers only the blocks, items and entities of the mods the author added. Iris and Optifine shaderpacks in their standard formats should, in principle, load with Shader Patcher applied, and the same applies to Euphoria Patches, where a Minecraft restart can be necessary based on which Euphoria release is in use. Fabric API is required, and the mod is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later.

Files are published for 1.19 – 26.3 across Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with the 0.4 beta as the latest build on each loader.

Key features

  1. Shaderpack patching

Patches shaderpacks in the Iris and Optifine formats so modded content is handled by the pack's shaders.

  2. Mapping and transform files

Uses patch mapping and transform files to match modded blocks, items and entities to their properties files by ID.

  3. Add-on patches

Modpack developers can add patches by bundling files in config directories, without changing the mod itself.

Who it’s for: Players who run a shaderpack alongside mods such as Biomes O Plenty or the Dynamic Trees family, and modpack developers who want those mods lit correctly.

Questions

Does Shader Patcher need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is listed as a required dependency, so it must be installed alongside Shader Patcher.

Does a server need Shader Patcher?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Why might Euphoria Patches require a restart?

Shader Patcher works with Euphoria Patches, and depending on the Euphoria version, Minecraft must be restarted for the patching to take effect.

In the catalog

What the author says

Shader Patcher aims to add mod support to any Iris/Optifine format shaderpack by patching them - similar to Euphoria Patches. It uses patch, mapping and transform files to easily identify and patch modded blocks/items/entities into the correct properties file and ID field.
