Serene Seasons X Distant Horizons

by ItsThatNova

Serene Seasons X Distant Horizons fixes foliage and grass colors in distant terrain so they follow the seasons Serene Seasons sets.

What it does

Distant Horizons draws far chunks as simplified level-of-detail terrain, and that terrain can keep the colors of an earlier season after the weather turns. This Fabric mod keeps the Distant Horizons color caches in step with seasonal changes, so trees and grass in the distance match the current season. When a season changes, or when a player travels between dimensions, the caches update on their own.

Colors still off after a season change can be refreshed with the ssdh-client reload command, which applies the new colors at once. Server owners who install the mod on a server also get the ssdh season admin command, which sets the current season by hand. The mod has to be present on both sides, and it needs Distant Horizons, Fabric API and Serene Seasons to run.

Files are published for Fabric only, with 1.0.3 for 1.21.11 as the latest file. The code is released under the MIT License, so the project is open source, and public links exist for its source code and issue tracker.

Key features

  1. Seasonal LOD colors

Distant Horizons terrain takes on the foliage and grass colors of the season Serene Seasons is currently showing.

  2. Automatic cache updates

The color caches refresh when the season changes and when a player travels between dimensions.

  3. Manual color reload

The ssdh-client reload command applies new seasonal colors immediately when they still look off.

  4. Season admin command

On a server, the ssdh season admin command lets an operator set the current season manually.

What the author says

A small compatibility mod for Minecraft 1.21.1 (Fabric) that makes Serene Seasons and Distant Horizons play nicely together. NOTE: While this could work in single player, I built this out for a multiplayer instance and so it may not fully work. It wouldn't be a huge leap for someone to fork this for single player…
