Nova Reimagined Snow
by ItsThatNova
Nova Reimagined Snow is a Fabric client-side companion to Nova Reimagined that drives snow appearance on terrain, distant terrain included, from a shader-side biome eligibility texture.
What it does
The mod publishes two textures that a shader samples in world space to decide whether a surface receives the snow treatment. The eligibility texture marks exact snow-biome boundaries per block column, so snow tinting stops at the edge of a biome instead of bleeding into neighboring warm biomes, and it is suppressed in the Nether and End. Its size follows the render distance, and the allocation is recalculated mid-session when the render distance changes.
Snow surface textures from active resource packs are resolved and published under stable identifiers, up to four variants, and the shader hashes each world position to assign one variant across the terrain. Distant Horizons material textures are handled the same way, so distant terrain can follow resource-pack art. Required dependencies are Fabric API and Nova Reimagined, and the shader keeps working without this mod, falling back to its plain inSnowy check.
Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy. The code is open source under the MIT License, and Fabric files exist for 1.21 – 1.21.11, with 1.0.3 for 1.21.11 as the latest file, published 2026-04-26.
Key features
Biome eligibility texture
Per-block-column snow eligibility follows exact biome boundaries, so snow stays inside snowy biomes.
Render distance sizing
The eligibility texture is sized to match render distance and reallocated automatically when it changes.
Resource-pack snow surfaces
Snow surface textures from active resource packs are resolved and published for the shader to sample.
Distant Horizons materials
Material textures for Distant Horizons LOD terrain are resolved from resource packs and published under stable IDs.

How it compares
SnowCrafting is a server-required mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt covering 1.21 – 1.21.11, under the Apache License 2.0; the client only needs it optionally. Dynamic Textures is a client-side Fabric mod for 1.20.1 under the MIT License, and ISaidNoSnow is a client-side Fabric mod for 1.19 – 1.20.4, also MIT licensed, so neither covers the 1.21 range of this mod.
