Saddle
by dwnsdp
Saddle makes saddles craftable, so horses can be ridden earlier in a survival world without a chest find.
What it does
A saddle becomes a recipe built from leather and a tripwire hook, which the datapack supplies. The crafting cost is set low enough to be affordable, yet high enough early on that saddles still feel like a step to earn, which keeps horses in regular use rather than neglected. Saddle works as a datapack, so it runs in vanilla worlds on any loader that supports the mod. Only the server has to run it, while players may leave it out. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 15 game versions, 1.19 – 1.21.3, under the MIT License, which is not open source.
Key features
Craftable saddles
Saddles can be crafted from five leather and one tripwire hook instead of being found only in loot.
Balanced early cost
The recipe is cheap enough to reach but still demands some early effort, keeping horses in play.
Datapack recipe
The crafting recipe is provided as a datapack, so it can be adjusted without changing code.

What the author says
This datapack uses five leather and one tripwire hook. I decided that saddles should be relatively cheap (the still hard early early game) to encourage the use of horses. Horse should not be neglected!
