Ripple Leaf Decay
by Beier
Ripple Leaf Decay replaces how leaves break after a tree is chopped, so that leaves fall away in an outward wave from the cut.
What it does
Vanilla leaves decay on a slow, random timer. This Fabric mod drops that approach and calculates the exact distance from each leaf block to the nearest log, so leaves further from the trunk break later. The result is a smooth outward ripple that moves through the canopy once a tree is chopped down.
A base speed value sets how fast the wave travels, and a higher number makes the wave slower. Slight randomness is added to the ticks, so the leaves look more like an organic tree falling apart and less like a rigid geometric grid. Fabric API is required, and the server needs the mod; a client can run it as well but does not have to.
Ripple Leaf Decay is published for Fabric only, across five release versions for 26.1 – 26.3, with 1.0.0+mc26.1.2 as the latest file for 26.3. The code is under the MIT License, and the mod is not open source.
Key features
Distance-based leaf decay
Each leaf is timed by its exact distance to the nearest log, which produces the outward ripple effect.
Adjustable wave speed
A base speed setting controls how quickly the decay wave travels, and a higher value slows it down.
Randomized timing
Small random variation in the decay ticks keeps the canopy from breaking in a uniform pattern.
Lightweight overhaul
The mod replaces the vanilla leaf decay routine instead of adding a separate system on top of it.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.

Use cases
Realistic tree felling
Players who build farms or forests can chop a tree and watch the canopy come down gradually rather than all at once.
Server-side survival
Server owners can add the mod to change leaf breakage for every player without requiring a client install.
Who it’s for: Server owners and players who want leaf breakage to follow distance from the trunk instead of the vanilla random timer.
How it compares
Shatter Leaves is a Fabric mod for 1.21.11 – 26.1.1 under the MIT License, but it is not open source, and only the server has to run it. Modern Leaf Decay is a Fabric mod for 1.16.5 – 1.21.4 that is open source under the MIT License and runs on the server alone. TreeFell is a Fabric mod for 26.2 that is open source under the MIT License, and like Ripple Leaf Decay only the server has to run it.

What the author says
Ripple Leaf Decay is a lightweight Fabric mod that completely overhauls how leaves break. Instead of the slow and random vanilla decay, this mod calculates the exact distance of every leaf and creates a smooth, satisfying outward ripple effect when a tree is chopped. { "modEnabled": true, "delayMultiplier": 2…
