Toss To Feed

by Beier

Toss To Feed lets passive animals eat food that a player tosses onto the ground, so tossing a handful of wheat draws nearby animals to it.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT License26.1 – 26.3

What it does

Passive animals in the world seek out and eat the breeding items they prefer when those items lie on the ground. Instead of feeding each animal by hand, a player can scatter wheat, seeds or other breeding food and let the animals come to it. The behavior is added as a natural ability for passive mobs, so it does not change how the animals otherwise act.

The mod is aimed at players who want animal husbandry to feel more organic, and at builders who set up automated breeding machines with redstone and droppers. A dropper that releases breeding items onto the ground can feed animals without any player present. The author notes that the mod is tested on Minecraft 26.2 and 26.3, and that it supports modded animals and breeding items that come from data packs without extra setup.

Toss To Feed is server-side only, so players join a server that runs it without installing anything. It requires Fabric API. Files are published for Fabric alone, for game versions 26.1 – 26.3, and the mod is released under the MIT License. The code is not open source.

Key features

  1. Ground food seeking

Passive animals move to breeding items lying on the ground and eat them directly from the ground.

  2. Preferred breeding items

Each animal eats the breeding items it prefers, so the mod follows the feeding rules that animals already have.

  3. Modded and data pack support

Animals from other mods and breeding items added by data packs work without extra setup.

  4. Extra configuration

Additional options let server owners adjust the behavior to fit their world.
