Requiem
by Ladysnake
When a player dies in Requiem, the death screen is replaced by soul, undead and possession mechanics, so dying becomes part of play rather than a reset to the last spawn point.
What it does
Requiem changes the death system in Minecraft Java Edition. Instead of a menu that sends lost items back to a spawn point, a death sets off new mechanics such as player souls, undead forms and possession. The aim is to remove the break in continuity that a standard death causes and give dying a place in the game.
A player can choose between a mortal and a demon path through the Origins selection screen, and origin powers apply only while the player is in their regular body. Undead characters have to flee sunlight and can drown, which suits roleplay. Eldritch mobs cannot be possessed, and the mod adds Golems Galore alongside its other content.
Requiem is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. It runs on Fabric and Quilt and needs Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) or Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL) to start. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Files cover 1.16.3 – 1.19.2.
Key features
Soul and possession mechanics
Death leads to a soul state in which the player can possess other creatures, changing how the death system plays.
Undead playstyle
Undead characters must avoid sunlight and can drown, which gives roleplaying players a harder survival path.
Origin choice at death
A dialogue after the first death and the Origins selection screen let players pick between mortal and demon paths.

Use cases
Exploring without a death penalty loop
Explorers who want to travel far from the spawn point can keep the regular death behavior without the new mechanics taking over their run.
Roleplay servers
Groups that want a different way to experience death can use the undead and possession systems as the basis of a shared story.
Who it’s for: Players who want dying to matter in a different way, and server owners who want a death system that adds mechanics and admin commands for testing.

What the author says
Requiem is a Minecraft (Java Edition) mod aiming at removing the continuity break resulting from death. In vanilla Minecraft, dying is bland and can be frustrating: you lose all your items and get redirected to a menu where you can choose to reappear at your spawn point or quit the game.
