RegionCast

by TVTvirus

RegionCast lets a server owner copy chosen region files from one world into another, while the server is shut down, without typing coordinates by hand.

FabricServer required, client optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 26.3

What it does

Players and operators pick regions on a map of the world instead of typing coordinates and hoping the right file was chosen. The map shows tiles of 512 by 512 blocks, and a zoomed-in view switches to a grid of regions and then single chunks. Changed regions are coloured in a ledger that compares two files, so only the parts that differ are marked for copying. The mod lives inside the Minecraft process and cannot stop the server by itself, so the server must be shut down for the copy to run.

Before copying, the source server is told to save and flush its data over RCON with save-off and save-all. Chunks that cross a border arrive half lit until the game recalculates lighting, and copying is slower per block because each chunk is decompressed and recompressed. Copying 60 regions at once takes roughly the disk space those regions occupy, around 400 MB. A second server can mirror a build server, so a creative test world can show a base to people without letting them touch the real one. Installation needs Fabric API on Fabric. RegionCast is server required and client optional, and the MIT License covers the open source code for version 26.3 and the 1.21 builds.

Key features

  1. Map-based region picker

Regions are selected on a map of the world, with zoom levels that move from tiles to regions to single chunks.

  2. Changed-region ledger

A comparison of two region files marks which regions changed since the last copy, and the last few updates stay undoable.

  3. Shutdown copying

Copies run while the server is shut down, with a save-off and save-all flush sent over RCON first.

  4. Rebuilt-world mirroring

A second server can mirror a build server, so changes made on one can be shown on the other.

Questions

Does RegionCast need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is required, so it must be installed next to RegionCast on the Fabric loader.

Does RegionCast have to be installed on the client?

No. The mod is server required and client optional, so the server needs it and players may leave it out.

Which game versions have files for RegionCast?

Files exist for 1.21, 1.21.1 and 26.3. The latest Fabric file is 1.0.2+26.3 for 26.3, published on 2026-10-04.

Why does copying take the server offline?

The mod lives inside the Minecraft process and cannot stop the server by itself, so copying runs during shutdown.

What the author says

Pull region files from another server's world into this one, picked off a map. RegionCast shows you which regions changed since the last time you copied them, you click the ones you want, and it brings terrain, points of interest and entities across during a controlled restart. The last few updates stay undoable.
