Recipe Modification library

by Player005

Recipe Modification is a library that applies arbitrary changes to every recipe at runtime, so a pack maker can alter recipes without overriding each one by hand.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer-side onlyCustom license1.20.1 – 26.1.2

What it does

Changes are written as recipe modifiers. Each modifier is defined in a JSON file inside a datapack, or built with the Java API, and it is applied while the game starts. Because the changes run at load time, they also reach recipes added by other mods, and several mods can change the same recipe without conflicting.

The mod has no effect on its own. Pack creators, data pack authors and mod developers use it to adjust crafting, smelting and other recipe types, for example to repair a recipe that does not use the shared tag for an item. The Java API is documented through the api package, with the main RecipeModification class as the entry point. Detailed usage instructions are not yet published.

Only the server needs it, and players join without installing anything. The library is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with the latest builds for 26.1.2 on Fabric and NeoForge and for 1.20.1 on Forge. Source code, an issue tracker and a wiki are public. The license is custom and the project is not open source. Vegan Delight requires it.

Key features

  1. Runtime recipe modifiers

Modifiers are applied to all recipes when the game starts, including recipes added by other mods.

  2. JSON datapack definitions

Recipe changes are written in JSON files inside a datapack, so no Java code is needed for common edits.

  3. Java API

A Java API lets developers define modifiers in code through the methods of the main RecipeModification class.

  4. Tag correction

Recipes that use the wrong tag can be redirected to the shared tag, which makes items from different mods compatible.

Unlock All Recipes is a server-required mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, covering 1.20.3 – 26.3 under a custom license. It changes which recipes players can see rather than the recipes themselves. B100Lib is a client-side only Fabric library for 1.20.1 – 26.3 and is open source under the MIT License, so it is not a recipe tool. KubeJS Additions is open source under the MIT License and runs on client and server for 1.18.2 – 1.21.1, which makes it a scripting option where this library uses JSON.

Questions

Does Recipe Modification need to be installed on the client?

Which loaders does Recipe Modification support?

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. The latest Quilt file targets 1.21.1, while the other loaders have builds for 26.1.2 or 1.20.1.

What the author says

This mod on its own doesn't do anything, instead, it's a tool for mod pack creators, data pack creators, other mod developers or anyone who likes tinkering. It allows you to automatically apply arbitrary modifications to any type of recipe at runtime in a simple way, either by using JSON files in a datapack or using…
