Rabbit Pathfinding Fixed
by litetex
Rabbit Pathfinding Fixed corrects how rabbits find their way, so they stop stalling, circling and stopping short of crops on Fabric servers.
What it does
Rabbits in vanilla Minecraft can stall horizontal movement during jumps, try to climb the block they just jumped from, and wander far away without ever reaching a goal. The author traces the root cause to EntityNavigation, which sets timeouts based on movement speed, and to RabbitMoveControl, which updates rabbit speed on every tick through RabbitEntity.setSpeed. This mod replaces that behavior with a more efficient calculation of jump height and velocity.
The mod also changes what rabbits do when idle and when they reach crops. Most other entities use LookAroundGoal, while rabbits have only a single idle goal and a far wander goal; the mod gives them behavior closer to other mobs. Rabbits also stop one block short of crops in vanilla, and eat them instantly even while still airborne. The fix addresses these cases as well. Fabric API is required, and the mod is published for Fabric only, across 32 release versions 1.18 – 26.3.
Key features
Efficient jump calculation
Jump height and velocity are computed more accurately, so rabbits land where they aim rather than repeating a failed jump.
Unstuck horizontal movement
Rabbits no longer freeze horizontally in midair during a jump, which removes the stalling seen in vanilla.
Idle and wander behavior
Rabbits gain idle goals closer to those of other entities, so they stop endlessly wandering far from their area.
Reaching crops
Rabbits move onto crops rather than stopping a block short, and they eat them only after landing.
