Profanity Shield

by Discorde

Profanity Shield replaces swear words in chat with random substitutes, so players who want a cleaner chat window can get one without moderators.

FabricNeoForgeQuiltClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.21.1

What it does

The mod reads a list of profanities from a file in the config folder, one word per line, and a second file of replacement words. When a chat message contains a listed word, one replacement is picked at random and used in its place. The original word is underlined in the chat line, and hovering the mouse over it reveals what was written.

The mod is client-side only, so only the player's own client runs it and the server does not need it. It is published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, with files for 1.21.1 dated 2025-12-01. The code is All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Word list in config

The profanities.txt file in the config folder lists the words to filter, one per line, and can be edited at any time.

  2. Random replacements

Each filtered word is swapped for a line picked at random from the replacements.txt file, so the substitutes vary.

  3. Hover to see original

A replaced word is underlined in chat, and hovering the mouse over it shows the original word.

What the author says

In its config folder this mod allows you to configure a profanities.txt where they're all grouped (1 word per line) and a replacements.txt which will randomly be picked to replace a profanity when one is sent in the chat. The replaced word will be underlined and you can hover your mouse over it to see the original…
