ModpackUtilities

by Discorde

ModpackUtilities is a Fabric client-side mod that runs commands for players on first join or on every join, so pack makers can hand out starter items and messages automatically.

FabricClient-side onlyCreative Commons Attribution Non Commercial No Derivatives 4.01.20.1

What it does

Each entry in the configuration pairs a command with a frequency setting: run once, when a player first joins the world, or every time a player joins. Commands run in the order they are listed, and the mod lets pack makers insert the player's username into a command. Entries follow the syntax the mod documents, with commands starting inside double quotes and any square-bracket placeholders kept in place.

The mod is aimed at modpack authors who want to remove repetitive setup work, such as giving a starter kit or sending a welcome message. It runs on the client side only, and it requires Fabric API. Files are published for Fabric, for 1.20.1 only, with 0.2.1 for 1.20.1 as the latest file. The code is released under a Creative Commons license that forbids commercial use and derivative works, so the mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Join-time commands

Commands can run once for a new player or every time any player joins the world.

  2. Ordered command list

Commands run from top to bottom in the order they are written, so a later entry can depend on an earlier one.

  3. Player username placeholder

The player's username can be inserted into a command, which lets one entry greet or reward each player individually.

  4. Simple configuration file

Entries are written as plain text values in a config file, so pack makers can copy and adapt examples.

Use cases

Starter kit for new players

A pack can give every newcomer a set of starting items the first time they join the world.

Welcome messages

A pack can send a short message to each player on every join, for example with the username inserted.

Who it’s for: Modpack authors and pack makers who want commands to run automatically when players enter a world. Players who only install a finished pack do not need to configure anything.

StartupCommands is a server-side only mod under the Apache License 2.0 for Fabric, covering 1.20.1 – 1.21.8, so it runs on a server rather than in each player's client. EyeIP is a client-side only mod under the MIT License for Fabric, covering 1.20.2 – 1.20.3, so it is limited to versions after this mod's 1.20.1 target.

What the author says

And there is no limit to the files and folders you can copy. It's up to your needs! Whatever you put will be copied. executionFrequency will run the commands either everytime the player joins the world, either once the first time, then never again. No example needed I hope.
