Pretty Rain
Pretty Rain changes how rain, snow and dust look on the client, with angled falling particles, wind-driven shrubs and splashes that match the biome's water tint.
What it does
Falling precipitation is drawn as particles that drift at an angle, with the angle and strength increasing during storms. Dust and shrubs blow across deserts and other dry biomes, and the effects also cover modded biomes. Splash particles appear where rain lands on water, follow the resolution of the active resource pack, and spawn when rain hits a hard wall. Particles also appear just above sea level in humid biomes.
The effects are experimental and can lag, so they are disabled by default. Each aspect can be toggled, and the radius, density and maximum particle count can be lowered in the config; by default at most 1500 particles spawn, which most systems handle. The mod is a port of a Fabric mod of the same effects. It is published for Forge and NeoForge for game versions 1.18.2 – 1.21.6, is client-side only, and is open source under the MIT License. Its files are not required on a server.
Key features
Angled rain particles
Falling rain is drawn at an angle as if pushed by wind, and the wind grows stronger during stormy weather.
Desert dust and shrubs
Dust and shrubs drift across deserts and dry biomes, including biomes added by other mods.
Biome-tinted water splashes
Rain and water particles take on the water tint of the biome they fall in, and splashes appear where rain meets water.
Wall and sea-level effects
Particles appear when rain hits a hard wall and just above sea level in humid biomes.
Configurable particle limits
Radius, density and the maximum particle amount can be lowered in the config, and each effect can be switched on or off.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Stormy survival worlds
Players who want rain to look more varied in storms can enable the wind-driven particles and tune the density to their hardware.
Low-end systems
Lowering the radius, density or particle maximum in the config reduces the load, since the effects are experimental and can lag.
Who it’s for: Players who want more detailed weather on their own client, including those who build modded biomes and want the effects to cover them.
How it compares
Yun's Weather is client-side only, open source under the MIT License, and published for Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1, so it covers a single version. Old TNT Particles is not open source, uses the CC0 1.0 Universal license, and works on either side for 1.19.2 – 1.21.8. New Particles For Player is NeoForge only for 1.21.1 and is not open source. Pretty Rain covers far more game versions than these.
