Potion Icons
by SamsTheNerd
Potion Icons shows the effect icon of a potion on the item slot that holds it, so players can tell potions apart at a glance.
What it does
When an item carries a potion effect, Potion Icons draws that effect's icon over the item in inventories, the hotbar and other item slots. Effect icons also appear beside each listed effect in potion tooltips, and in chat signs or any other text field where an effect is typed, for example effect:fire_resistance to show the fire resistance icon.
A default icon is always drawn in the top left corner of the slot, and four modes control where the icon sits: top left, bottom right, across the entire slot, and in front of or behind the item. Some of these settings can be set separately depending on whether the player holds Shift. The rendering can be disabled in the config.
Potion Icons is client-side only, so servers run without it and players install it alone. It is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and needs Cloth Config API, Fabric API and Inline on Fabric. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, with builds for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1.

Use cases
Sorting potion stacks
Players with many potions in storage can find the right one without hovering over each item.
Reading brewing results
Icons next to effect names in tooltips make it quicker to check what a brew does before drinking it.
Who it’s for: Players who carry many potions or brew often, and anyone who wants effect icons in more places than the vanilla game shows them.
How it compares
Sign Icons is another client-side option for icons in text, licensed under the MIT License and open source, with Fabric and Forge files for 1.20 – 1.21.11. Phyto is server required with client optional, licensed under the Apache License 2.0, for 1.20.5 – 26.1.2. Potion Icons sticks to effect icons, needs no server installation, and covers 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 across four loaders.
