Pocket Portals

by dqwertyc.dev

Pocket Portals lets a player craft portable Nether and End portals that open for three seconds from a one-by-two wall placement.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT License26.1 – 26.3

What it does

Each portable portal is made from four crafting items: four Obsidian Fire Charges for the Nether version and four End Stone Eyes of Ender for the End version. Placing one in a one-by-two wall space creates a temporary portal that stays open for three seconds. Travel through it is instantaneous, which lets a player cross between dimensions quickly without building a full frame.

Unlike linking to existing portals, a portable portal lands the player at the nearest safe location at the current horizontal coordinates, scaled between the Overworld and the Nether. The player can therefore aim the trip with some precision. Regardless of the starting dimension, a player who uses the End version is always deposited on the End spawn platform. Attempting to place a portal in the End causes an explosion that deals damage attributed to intentional game mechanics.

The mod is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and requires a server to run it. Only the server needs the mod, so players can join without installing it. The files cover 26.1 – 26.3 across five release versions, with 26.3.0+mod for 26.3 as the latest file, under the MIT License. It is not open source.

Key features

  1. Craftable Nether portal

Four Obsidian Fire Charges craft a portable Nether portal that can be placed in a wall and used for a short trip.

  2. Craftable End portal

Four End Stone Eyes of Ender craft a portable End portal with the same placement and three-second window.

  3. Nearest safe landing

The portable portal sends the player to the nearest safe spot at the current horizontal coordinates instead of a linked portal.

  4. Instant travel

Stepping into an open portal moves the player at once, with no loading delay on the portal itself.
