Player Tracker Compass

by IDoTheHax

Player Tracker Compass lets a server operator give players a compass that points to the nearest player they have chosen to track.

FabricServer-side onlyGNU General Public License v2.0 or laterOpen source1.21

What it does

Tracking is handled by commands, and a custom tracking compass item shows the direction to the closest tracked player. Up to two players can be tracked at the same time. The compass refreshes its target about every 10 seconds, and it only points to players in the same dimension as the holder, so a target in the Nether does not show from the Overworld.

The mod runs on the server alone, so players join without installing anything. It needs Fabric Loader and Fabric API on the server, and the commands are limited to operators with permission level 4. Administrators running manhunt-style games can use it to follow specific players while keeping control of the tracking limits. Files are published for Fabric only, for Minecraft 1.21. The latest build is v1.0.1 for 1.21, released 2025-03-18, under the GNU General Public License v2.0 or later, and the source code is open source.

Key features

  1. Nearest-player compass

The tracking compass points to the nearest tracked player, updating its target roughly every 10 seconds.

  2. Two tracked targets

The server can track up to two players at once, so the compass can follow a pair of targets.

  3. Command-based tracking

Starting and stopping tracking is done with commands that only operators at permission level 4 can use.

  4. Naming and color feedback

The compass name changes color to show the state of tracking, giving the holder a visual signal without a menu.

  5. Protected targets

Players who are being tracked cannot receive a tracking compass, which keeps the hunt from being turned around on the hunted.

  6. Durable compass item

The tracking compass has a magical glint and is fireproof, so it survives lava and fire.

CompassFindings is a client-side only Fabric mod for 1.21.10, released under the MIT License and open source, so it works on a client alone.
