Ping
by tekkabyte
Ping lets a player with the mod set temporary waypoints in the world, and friends who also run it see the markers and their distance.
What it does
Ping is a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.21.8 – 1.21.11 that adds temporary waypoints. A player looks at a block or entity and presses a configured key to place a waypoint there. The waypoint is drawn as a tall, visible beacon-style marker that stays on screen until its duration runs out. Distance labels show how far away each marker is.
Waypoints are shared through ordinary chat, including team chat, so no extra server channel is needed. Each ping is sent as a compact payload embedded in a chat message. Players who have the mod installed detect that payload, read the location and render the waypoint in the same dimension. Other players without the mod see only the chat text, so the ping markers are not drawn for them.
Ping is client-side only, so the server and players who never install it are unaffected, but every player who wants to see the markers needs the mod. It is published for Fabric only, in 1.0 for 1.21.11, and the files cover 1.21.8 and 1.21.11. The code is under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.
Key features
Temporary waypoints
Pings mark a location for a set time, then disappear, so they suit short-lived navigation and coordination.
Beacon-style markers
Each waypoint is rendered as a tall marker that stays visible from a distance, with a distance label on screen.
Chat-based sharing
Pings travel through normal and team chat as an embedded payload, and receiving players with the mod see the marker.
Configurable ping settings
The ping color, duration, key binding and command format can be changed, and a Mod Menu config screen is supported.

How it compares
HisokaMarkers is another Fabric client mod that works on 1.21 – 1.21.11 under the MIT License, and it is also client-side only. Mention is a server-side only Fabric mod for 1.21.11 released under CC0 1.0 Universal, so it runs on the server and does not need players to install anything. HOME Utilities is a server-side only Fabric mod for 1.21.1 – 1.21.8 and is open source under the MIT License, so it adds home and teleport commands rather than waypoint markers.
