Mention

by Er_Mu1

Mention lets a player ping another player in chat by typing their name, and only the mentioned player sees the highlight.

FabricServer-side onlyCC0 1.0 Universal1.21.11

What it does

When a chat message contains another player's name, the mentioned player sees the message with their name highlighted in bold yellow, hears a ding sound and gets a red action bar notice. Everyone else sees a normal chat line. Typing a name is all it takes, so no command or menu is needed.

The effects run on the client, so the mod is installed on each player's game. It is server-side only, meaning the server does not need it and players can join a server without installing it. The code and mod are released under CC0 1.0 Universal, which places them in the public domain and is not open source. Files exist only for Fabric and for Minecraft 1.21.11.

Key features

  3. Sound and action bar alert

Use cases

Calling someone in a busy chat

On a crowded server, a player can get the attention of one specific person without shouting in global chat.

Coordinating a group

Friends playing together can flag each other when a message is meant for them.

Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who want name pings in chat, and server owners who want to offer them without changing the server itself.
