Death Log

by Er_Mu1

Death Log keeps a record of every death each player suffers on a Fabric server, with the real date and time, the in-game day, the dimension, the coordinates and the cause.

What it does

Each time a player dies, the mod writes an entry to that player's own history. The entry holds the real-world date and time, the in-game day, the dimension, the coordinates and the cause of death. Entries accumulate, so the history of a player's deaths can be looked through over time.

The history is kept in per-player JSON files, which means the record survives server restarts. The mod works on a single-player world as well as on a multiplayer server, since the server side is where it runs. It requires Fabric API to be installed alongside it.

The history can be checked in-game with the deathhistory command, which shows a player's past deaths without any need to open the files by hand.

Key features

  1. Per-player death history

Each player has a separate list of deaths, so records for one player do not mix with those of another.

  2. Date, time and in-game day

Every entry stores the real-world date and time together with the in-game day the death happened.

  3. Location and cause

Each death records the dimension, the coordinates and the cause of death.

  4. Persistent storage

Death data is written to JSON files, so the history is still there after the server restarts.

Use cases

Reviewing a player's losses

Who it’s for: Server owners and administrators who want a record of player deaths, and players on single-player worlds who want to check their own history.

Questions

Does Death Log need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API is required and must be installed next to Death Log on the server.

Do players need to install Death Log?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join.

Where is the death data stored?

Each player's history is saved in a separate JSON file, so the records remain after a server restart.

Which game version does Death Log support?

The mod has a single file for 1.21.11, published on 2026-08-25.
