PickUpExtender

by PatrickSolberg

PickUpExtender lets a Fabric player set a wider pickup range, so items on the ground are collected from farther away than vanilla allows.

FabricClient and serverCC0 1.0 UniversalOpen source1.21.5 – 1.21.8

What it does

Vanilla Minecraft collects dropped items only from about one block away. PickUpExtender raises that limit to a configurable distance, with a default of 1 to 20 blocks, so items within the chosen radius are picked up automatically. A toggle turns the extended range on or off, and the distance can be lowered again at any time.

The mod runs on client and server. Both the server and every player need it for the wider range to apply to them, and it is published for 1.21.5 – 1.21.8. The latest Fabric file is 1.0.1-1.21.8 for 1.21.8, released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, which places the code in the public domain, and its source code and issue tracker are public.

Key features

  1. Extended pickup range

Items in the world are collected from a configurable distance instead of only from the block the player stands next to.

  2. Distance from 1 to 20 blocks

The maximum pickup distance can be set between 1 and 20 blocks, with 1 block matching vanilla behavior at the low end.

  3. On and off toggle

A toggle switches the extended pickup range on or off without changing the configured distance.

  4. Adjustable reduction

The distance can be decreased at any time, so the range can be tightened in crowded areas.

Use cases

Collecting drops from farms

Mob and crop drops spread over a wide area can be gathered without walking over each item.

Mining and clearing ground

After a quarry or tree harvest, scattered items within range are picked up in one pass.

Who it’s for: Players who want less walking to collect dropped items, and server owners who want a shared, configurable pickup distance on multiplayer servers.

How it compares

Item Pickup Filter is a Fabric mod for 1.21 – 1.21.11 that is client-side only and open source under the MIT License, so it changes what is collected rather than how far. Disable item pickup is a Fabric mod for 26.1.2 under the MIT License that is client-side only and not open source, and it turns pickup off instead of extending it. Cobblemon True Pickup is a Fabric mod for 1.21.1 that is server-side only, not open source and under the MIT License, so players join without installing it.
