Petlings

by Bownlux

Petlings turns a virtual pet companion into a Minecraft feature, with pets that follow the player, sniff the ground and respond to play.

FabricNeoForgeClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.21.11 – 26.3

What it does

A pet can be adopted and customized, and it builds a bond with the player over time. Petlings adds interaction play: a pet reacts when the player treats it, and a rhythm mini-game plays out when the pet stamps glowing pawprints around itself. Friendly ghosts drift around the pet after dark, and a Halloween-style set of seasonal events appears during October nights, including a Pumpkin Hat and a trick-or-treat sequence in which a walk over a wrapped sweet ground cheers the pet up.

Petlings requires Geckolib, which must be installed alongside it. The mod is published for Fabric and NeoForge across six release versions, 1.21.11 – 26.3, and is client-side only, so servers run without it and only the player who wants the pet installs it. A seasonal switch in Settings turns the October content off, and the keys can be rebound in the Options Controls menu.

Key features

  1. Pet interaction play

Players interact with the pet directly, and a rhythm mini-game and glowing pawprints add simple play.

  2. Sniffing and digging

The pet sniffs and digs grass, dirt, sand and gravel, and most finds are ordinary items.

  3. Eight buried keepsakes

Eight old keepsakes are buried around the world, and finding them wakes the Heart Tree and reveals the story.

  4. Seasonal October content

Friendly ghosts, soft white wisps and a Pumpkin Hat appear on October nights, and a setting can turn them off.

Questions

Does Petlings need Geckolib?

Yes. Geckolib is a required dependency and must be installed next to Petlings on Fabric or NeoForge.

Does a server need Petlings installed?

No. The mod is client-side only, so a server runs without it and players can install it on their own.

Can the October content be turned off?

Yes. A seasonal switch in Settings turns off the October events, so the pet keeps its normal behavior.
