PetProtect
by sylvxa
Owners who want tamed animals to survive player attacks can use PetProtect, a server-side mod that sets which damage and attacks reach tamed pets.
What it does
PetProtect controls how tamed mobs take damage from players and how they fight back. A global toggle switches the rules on or off, and each option then decides a separate case: whether environmental or mob damage still reaches pets, whether pets can die at all, whether a Totem of Undying is used when a pet would die, and whether pets attack players.
The mod also covers owners and creative players. One option lets an owner damage or kill their own pet regardless of the other rules, and another lets creative players damage pets regardless of the rules. The mod requires Fabric API. It runs on the server only, so players join without installing anything, and it is licensed under the MIT License, which makes it open source. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge across 16 release versions, 1.21 – 26.2, with 2.0.0 for 26.2 as the latest build on each loader.
Key features
Global toggle
A single switch turns all PetProtect protection on or off without changing the individual settings.
Pet death prevention
Decides whether tamed pets can die under any circumstances, and can use a Totem of Undying effect to prevent a fatal hit.
Pet attack control
Sets whether pets attack players, so protected animals can be kept passive toward the people who own or visit them.
Owner and creative exceptions
Lets owners damage their own pets when enabled, and lets creative players damage pets regardless of the other rules.
