Second Chance

Second Chance keeps players and their pets from being killed in a single hit when they are near full health.
What it does
The mod changes how damage is applied to players and tamed pets, so a hit that would otherwise remove all health in one blow leaves a small amount behind. The threshold that triggers this can be changed in the second-chance.properties file, and the same file controls the related health setting, so server owners can tune it. Second Chance is server-side only, so players join without installing it and only the server needs it. It is open source under the MIT License and has files for 26.2, with 1.21.5 and 1.21.10 also listed among the game versions it supports.

Players get a moment to escape or heal against strong enemies instead of losing everything to one attack.

Second Chance makes a small change to player and pet health, which prevents one shots if the player/pet is close to full health. This prevents unfair one-shots and gives time to react to powerful enemies. This will not apply to fall damage, falling blocks, void damage, or players attacking pets.
